Many of us would kill to get a behind-the-scenes peek at the closets of the rich and famous (have you seen Nicole Richie’s shoe collection?), and Stephanie Mark knows it. That’s why we’re obsessed with her website, The Coveteur, which started with closets and now covers all things beauty, health, wellness, food, travel and interiors. We love her cool girl style and go-with-the flow attitude and we can’t wait to get our hands on a copy of her new book.
Name +Occupation: Stephanie Mark, Co-Founder, The Coveteur
Getting an up close look at someone’s closet is pretty intimate. Tell us about some of your favorite shoots to date. To be honest it is really hard for me to choose a favorite shoot. We recently had John Dempsey on the site and that was a huge moment for me personally and for the site. The Coveteur started around this idea of voyeurism. People share so much more of their lives now (through social media) than they used to. And yet we’re still so curious. Why? I think The Coveteur provides a behind the scenes look in a way that is different from other outlets, platforms, and even individuals. We have our own lens that includes our photography, styling and voice and I think people enjoy seeing how we apply it to different scenarios.
You started with closets, but you’ve expanded so much more. Tell us about that shift. The shift to other verticals (beauty, health, wellness, food, travel, interiors, etc) was natural for us. We were getting all of this insider information about these topics from being inside different tastemakers homes so it was only natural to begin to share it with our readers. Now, we apply our lens to all different types of topics by covering through our lens and voice.
Best habit – beauty or otherwise: Starting to workout in the mornings.
Worst habit – beauty or otherwise: Throwing my clothes on the floor.
First thing you do when you wake up: Hit snooze.
What’s your typical hair/beauty routine? Hair is pretty easy. I have keratin so I need to use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (which is why I love Living Proof) and besides that, I just wash and go. Beauty-wise, I just started using Tracie Martyn so basically whatever she tells me to do, I do it.
How often do you wash your hair? 3-5 times a week.
Biggest hair regret: Cutting it too short recently. Thankfully it is growing back!
One thing you would never do to your hair: Who knows—I have pretty much had every style and color possible!
How long have you been going to your stylist? I bop around to be honest. Since we are on the road so much I try to sneak in a cut when we are on set with a really great stylist. Otherwise, I go where I can, when I can!
Who is your role model? My mom! She is pretty bad ass.
What about your Woman Crush? Name yours. I have a huge Woman Crush on Desiree Gruber. I recently interviewed her for The Coveteur and I was just blown away. She is so inspiring and had great tips on how to run and lead a company.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Something along the lines of work hard and be nice to people.
How do you act confident (even when you don’t feel confident)? Fake it ‘til you make it 🙂
Most life-changing innovation: Uber.
Favorite inventor/gamechanger: Jim Henson.
What do you wish someone would invent next? Something that would force me to stick to my diet!
