When given the chance to interview the founder of iconic store Scoop NYC, we just couldn’t say no. Since leaving the company in 2008, Stefani Greenfield started her own branding consulting agency and has worked on killer brands like Diane von Furstenberg. She shares her advice on running her life like a business and explains how you just can’t fake confidence.
Name + occupation: Stefani Greenfield, Co-Founder of SCOOP NYC; CEO & Owner, My Next Act, Brand Consulting Agency
What inspires you? My daughter Theodora’s imagination.
How do you maintain a work/life balance? Know when to turn it “OFF” (work) and “ON” (life) and visa versa.
What’s a typical day at the office for you (if there is such a thing)? I am a true serial entrepreneur in work and play; I run my life and business accordingly. I function best daily in structure. I keep a ritualistic morning routine, and a type-A organized schedule. However, as a creative and fluid person, I allow the freedom each day to see and do things that inspire me—connect and disconnect depending on the spontaneity of a day.
What’s your go-to work outfit? Black Alaia leggings, sweatshirt & Nike Free sneakers OR a Maxi dress, shrunken leather jacket & platform boots/booties.
Three things you’re most passionate about: Culture, travel and kindness.
Best habit – beauty or otherwise: I have an ultra-clean diet regimen.
Worst habit – beauty or otherwise: Way too much coffee!!!
First thing you do when you wake up: Brush my teeth, apply under eye cream. Then 10 minutes of stretching as I dream of that first cup of coffee!
What’s your typical hair/beauty routine? Super simple. I sleep in two braids at night so my hair doesn’t knot. A satin pillow is the perfect solution to not wake up with face, neck or chest creases. And never ever be caught without (except on the beach or working out) light bronzer, skin illuminator, and a neutral lip gloss.
How often do you wash your hair? Twice a week, three times max.
Favorite Living Proof product(s): Fresh Cut Split End Mender.
Biggest hair regret: Not going blonde sooner!
One thing you would never do to your hair: Cut it short.
How long have you been going to your stylist?I have two—5-10 years between them.
Who is your role model? My mother—she is a maverick woman.
What about your Woman Crush? Name yours. Ali MacGraw
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Pause, before (over)reacting.
How do you act confident (even when you don’t feel confident)? You can’t act confident—confidence is REAL even when you feel insecure. It is not something that can be acted out.
Most life-changing innovation: Gel manicures and spray tans.
Favorite inventor/gamechanger: Bill and Melinda Gates.
What do you wish someone would invent next? The ability to truly freeze a moment.
