There’s nothing better than some quality time with your girlfriends. But we get it—life is busy and sometimes it just seems easier to blow off plans with friends. No more excuses. We’re here to share our favorite (and stress-free) way to catch up with our girlfriends: hosting a girls’ night in. It’s easy, inexpensive, and much more intimate than a night out at a noisy bar or restaurant. Here all the things you should have on hand.
During your weekly grocery shop, pick up some extra goodies for your night in. Keep it simple: fruits or veggies (we like grapes and carrots), a couple of nice cheeses, and some charcuterie. Bonus points for a fresh baguette.
A delicious dip—either homemade or store bought—is a good way to help your friends fill up. If you’re using store bought hummus, we love this hummus hack from Dinner: A Love Story: add a spoonful or two of Greek yogurt and you’ll fool everyone into thinking it’s homemade.
Pro tip: If you have a Trader Joe’s near you, they stock plenty of amazing frozen treats that are easy to heat up in a pinch and will impress all your friends (your secret’s safe with us). The Feta Cheese & Caramelized Onion pastry bites are addicting. Stash a box or two in your freezer for your next impromptu gathering.
Keep a few extra bottles of your favorite wine or bubbly on hand—that way you’re set the night of your get-together. If you’re feeling extra fancy, set up a bar area with a simple selection of liquors, mixers, and garnishes of choice. Your guests will be pleased with the variety, and have fun playing mixologist all night.
It’s great to sit and chat, but a party gets even better when you break out the card or board games. If your feeling rowdy, go with Cards Against Humanity. Or if it’s just a tight knit group of friends that you see often, there’s nothing wrong with a Netflix binge.
While you’re catching up with the girls or watching your favorite shows, multitask and add a little pampering into the mix. A beauty product swap is a great way to do this. Everyone brings a travel size of the beauty product they’re currently obsessing over, and you and your friends can trade while your share your best beauty tips and tricks.
When you’re with close friends (the kind that don’t mind seeing you in a mud mask), break out our favorite Face Mask from Sephora and indulging in a mini spa night. Don’t forget about the hair! We like Night Cap since it absorbs instantly and you don’t have to wash it out. It’s good for all hair types, too, so everyone can partake.
